Finding a path outdoors: why an apprenticeship was the right choice for Eoin
Eoin joined the council last year as a Horticulture Apprentice.
Eoin is being trained internally by the current team on how to use the excavator and complete burials as well as being booked in for an external course in spring where he will gain an accredited qualification in the use of excavators under 10T . He has also completed an external course in strimming at a local training provider.
We asked Eoin to talk us through his decision to talk on this role and how he’s finding the experience and here’s what he told us:
What made you want to apply for this apprenticeship?
- Having the opportunity work outside in the environment.
- I felt like I would get more out of myself through an apprenticeship and provide greater opportunity to progress.
What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeship experience so far?
- The people and the environment that I work in; when I joined, everyone was helpful, supportive and welcoming which made it less daunting.
What advice would you give someone considering an apprenticeship?
- Push yourself, have confidence and don’t be scared about the future.
