Here at Halton Borough Council our casual workforce play a vital role in many of our services including leisure, hospitality, social care and logistics. As a casual worker you can work to fit with your work-life balance, whether that be during the day, weekends only or evenings – whatever works best for you in fitting with the needs of the service.

You might not be aware but our teams deliver 100’s of services everyday to support our residents and communities, as such we offer a diverse and exciting range of opportunities.

Leisure

More information

Kingsway Leisure Centre and Brookvale Recreation Centre are home to many leisure facilities including; swimming pool, gym, sports hall and well as other great facilities. Our amazing staff lead the way in providing a range of first class activities every day of the week. Casual posts are available for Receptionists who will greet you on your visit. Swimming Instructors, with the relevant qualifications, teach local school and private lessons. Our Casual Leisure Attendants are qualified lifeguards and together with our Fitness Advisors work across our sites to support our members’ health and wellbeing. Our Operations Managers ensure everything runs smoothly within the centres.

Sport and Recreation

Our Casual Sports Coaches help deliver a wide range of sports based activities whilst promoting participation across the borough. They support the co-ordination and delivery of structured sports and leadership sessions in schools, across open spaces and community venues. Our Centre Assistants oversee building operations and administer community bookings at our Frank Myler pavillion. They ensure the site is well maintained both internally and externally and as a key holder are responsible for securing the premises.

The Stadium

The DCBL Stadium (Halton) holds sports, conferencing and private functions throughout the year. It is home to Widnes Vikings during the rubgy season requiring a multi-disciplined team of casual workers to cover a host of roles including our Casual Crowd Safety and Ground Response Stewards who ensure crowd safety during our matches, as well as our Stadium Turnstile Operators. Our General Assistants undertake a range of hospitality tasks including bar and waiting on services throughout our function suites and stadium boxes.

The Brindley

Our award winning theatre is based in Runcorn. Productions include musicals, music artists, comedians and pantomime within the main theatre and studio space. Our Casual Production Technicians, Technicians and Theatre Stewards are the lifeblood of the venue. Theatre Stewards provide support and audience safety throughout productions and our Technicians provide specialist technical support to ensure the smooth running of each performance.

Fleet Transport

A busy service providing essential transport across the borough, operating out of our Widnes depot at Lower House Lane. Our Casual Client Driver/Attendants drive the Authority’s fleet of Accessible Transport vehicles along with the supporting role to care for Special Education Needs Children and Vulnerable Adults throughout the transport process. Our Casual Community Meals Drivers deliver vital meals across the Borough.

Halton has award winning parks and green spaces that are maintained throughout the year. As a Casual Open Space worker within the service you would be part of our Streetscene, Parks and Cemeteries teams supporting the delivery of horticultural management and keeping our parks and communities well kept.

Social Care

Halton has such a diverse range of care related services. We manage five care settings and a mobile Reablement service across the Borough. Our Care Homes provide a safe and comfortable place to live for some of our most vulnerable residents and our Reablement service allows our elderly residents to remain independent in their own homes. Our casual roles include care and domestic positions to cover a 24/7 operation. Our Care Assistants provide support and personal care to residents and our General Assistants undertake domestic duties through the homes and help support with residents. Care and Support Workers within our Reablement service engage in an at home mobile care service with residents within the community.

We also provide Supported Living and Day Service provisions across the Borough helping to support our vulnerable adults maintain their independence either within their supported living homes, wider community, or one of our many day service settings, including cafes at Norton Priory and Widnes town centre, hairdressing and animal husbandry in Runcorn as well as many other activities.
