A Spotlight on …. Emma Ledward

Hi, I’m Emma, the climate change apprentice. This is a new role within our Environment and Regeneration directorate that started in September to support the commitment towards Halton’s net zero target of 2040.

So far, I have been involved in many projects, such as the Microgrid extension and the decarbonisation of Council buildings among other things.

Alongside working at the Council, I study one day a week at Manchester Metropolitan University working toward my qualification in Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility.

Throughout 2026, I will be collecting energy consumption data on Council buildings and sharing this with the relevant building managers. This will allow them to analyse their consumption, compare to previous months and years, and try to reduce this if consumption is higher than normal. I will also be looking at how we can support schools to reduce their carbon footprint.
